Putin Comments on Ukraine Conflict Progress, NATO Tensions

(MENAFN) During a press interaction while visiting Kazakhstan, Russian President Vladimir Putin addressed a range of geopolitical issues, including the ongoing Ukraine conflict, relations with NATO, and recent regional incidents involving neighboring states.

He said that the Ukraine conflict is approaching its final phase, citing developments on the battlefield as evidence that the situation is moving toward conclusion, while cautioning against predicting specific timelines.

“The situation on the battlefield gives reason to believe that (the conflict) is drawing to a close.”

At the same time, he noted that although communication channels with some parties remain open, formal negotiations on ending the conflict are not currently taking place.

He went on to say that although Moscow maintains “certain contacts,” no peace talks are being held at the moment.

Putin also referred to a recent drone-related incident in Romania that NATO attributed to Russia, commenting in the broader context of heightened tensions between Moscow and the alliance.

In addition, he briefly addressed foreign policy developments in Armenia, another former Soviet republic with longstanding ties to Russia.

The remarks were made amid shifting international dynamics, including renewed debate within parts of Europe about the possibility of re-engaging diplomatic discussions with Russia, despite the suspension of formal dialogue in 2022.
